The Duette™ is a hybrid contact lens, meaning it has both hard (gas permeable or GP) and soft contact lens features. The center of the lens is GP (rigid) providing advanced optics and crisp vision with a soft skirt that is attached to the perimeter for improved comfort and centration. It's the best of both worlds, crisp vision of a rigid lens with the comfort of a soft contact!
Gas permeable contact lenses offer superior optics compared to their soft counterparts. They afford the best vision and crispness to all wearers, including those with astigmatism. The problem with GP lenses has always been comfort and visual stability. Because of the rigid nature of the lens, it causes a lot of awareness and requires weeks of adaptation. Soft lenses give great comfort from the start, but the vision is inferior to that of a GP.
Now, Synergeyes, the makers of Duette™ HD and Duette™ Multifocal, have created a lens that embodies the best of both worlds by giving gas permeable vision in a lens that offers soft contact comfort.
The Duette™HD is great for anyone that desires improved vision from their soft lenses, or better comfort than their GP’s. It is great for people with astigmatism and does not need to rotate into position like a soft lens.
Duette™ Multifocal is designed specifically for patients over forty-five years old who want to get rid of glasses for distance and for near vision tasks. It provides terrific distance, intermediate and near vision in both eyes. Unlike monovision, Duette™ Multifocals uses both eyes at all distances to improve visual acuity and depth perception. What that means for our patients is good vision at ALL distances!
